Common questions
The board is empty, or says nothing is nearby
Await covers the New York City Subway, and only stations inside your walking radius — five minutes by default, adjustable in Settings. Outside the city, or away from a station, there is nothing to show. You can also search any station by name and pin the board to it.
A line says the times are from the timetable
Countdowns come from the MTA's live feeds. When a line stops publishing live data, Await says so rather than showing numbers it cannot stand behind: two arcs mean live, one arc means last seen about a minute ago, and no arc means the timetable.
It never asked for my location, or I declined
Await works without it. Search for your station by name and it builds the same board, minus the walk time. If you change your mind, location lives in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Await.
The times differ from the platform sign
Await reads the same MTA feeds the signs do, but the two poll at different moments. A train cancelled mid-route can also linger in a feed; Await drops a prediction that stops moving across two polls, which is what a cancelled trip looks like from outside.
Why are some stations one entry when the signs say otherwise?
Stations that share a fare-controlled transfer are folded into one — Atlantic Av–Barclays Ctr is three stations in the MTA's data and one place to a person standing there. The board follows the person.
Does it cover buses, or the LIRR?
No. Subway only, on purpose. One screen that does one thing well beats four tabs that each do something adequately.
What is the tip jar?
Three optional tips in Settings, and nothing more. Await is free and stays free — a tip unlocks no feature, removes no limit, and the app is identical whether you leave one or not. The App Store takes the payment; Await never sees your details and keeps no record of it.
Privacy
Your location never leaves your phone, and there is no account, no analytics and no tracking SDK. The full policy is on the privacy page.
